im on a roll. third blog today.
inspiration just keeps pouring in. in this case, the inspiration is singaporean food.
singapore is probably one of those places in the world where you can just eat anywhere, and still have a good meal. it is, they say the gastronomic melting pot of, if not the world, then southeast asia.
it is every foodie's wet dream.
let me paint you a picture of how this wet dream would look like.
it starts with the breakfast. the traditional singaporean breakfast, kaya toast with butter. served with soft boiled eggs and only made better with their milk tea. ya kun kaya toast does it best.
after shopping for a few hours and burned up the calories, you can head to a hawker centre for lunch. there's lau pa sat, or newton circus, both my favorites. this time i choose maxwell food centre at maxwell road, all for the love of the best hainanese chicken rice in town. that is according to Anthony Bourdain, only my food god and the love of my life. him and the rest of the people voted Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice, if not the best, then one of the best. but since this is my blog, im saying it's the best there is.
when you see people lining up for food this long (when all food stalls are left empty), you know they must be doing something right. so i queued, waited for more than 30 minutes. and it's not even peak hours. i entertained myself by looking at bourdain's picture posted on their stall. then stared at the hanging chicken. then back at bourdain again.
then it was my turn. moment of truth.
ordered the half hainanese chicken. chicken rice. and the bok choy in oyster sauce. it comes with the yummy soup. don't judge, it's all mine.
so there i was, in the scorching heat of singapore, devouring the famous Tian tian chicken rice.
i made the face.
my fiance' says i make a face when i take a bite of something i really like and enjoy. sounded a little naughty but let's keep a clean mind people.
i can only assume i made that face that afternoon. no words.
im not a chef or a food critic, so im not going to pretend to give you far out adjectives about any food.
let's just say, it was amazeballs. if i was ever caught dead saying amazeballs.
or if you're craving for something different (which i would think you're crazy cause you have to try that chicken rice), head to Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant, an Indian restaurant by North bridge road. They make the meanest murtabak (stuffed pancake). Your choice of chicken or mutton stuffing. a little something to experience the Indian influences in singapore.
then there was the mighty chili crab. save room for this one. No Signboard Seafood offers probably the best chili crab in singapore. voted the best, so had to try it to believe.
i came. i ate. i believed.
the meat. the sauce. the buns.
i just made the face again.
ive tried chili crab in other hawker centres in the city, but this the real deal.
i don't know how to go back from this.
til my next singapore food hunt! laksa, char kway teow and so much more awaits.
amazeballs.
